Travel Tips

Be Our Guest!

Traveling to St. Lucia is easy. Enjoy direct and non-stop flights from most major US, Canadian, and European cities. Most international flights arrive at St. Lucia’s Hewanorra International Airport (UVF), located in Vieux Fort, approximately a 75-minute drive to the resort. Regional carriers and private planes fly into St. Lucia’s George F.L. Charles Airport (SLU), located in Castries, about 10 minutes from the resort. Taxis are easily available at both airports. We always recommend arriving at the airport at least two hours prior to your flight for international travel.

Airport Transfers

If you do not have prearranged airport transfers, have no fear. Airport transfers can be prearranged by Elite Island Resorts or your travel agent for direct bookings ONLY. Also, transfers can be arranged locally with our preferred transfer service, Hilary Transfers and Tours upon request. You can book online at http://www.hilarytransfersandtours.com. We have a fully staffed booth just outside of Customs at Hewanorra International Airport to assist you on arrival. Transfer service is available at both airports. For adventurous travelers, helicopter transfers are also available from Hewanorra International Airport (UVF) to George F.L. Charles Airport (SLU), and Hilary’s transfer service will be happy to pick you up and transfer you to the resort.

How's the Weather?

Ahhhh… warm, sunny, and tropical with lovely breezes! Bring your swimsuit, hat, sunglasses, sandals, and warm weather clothing. We also recommend sunblock lotion for days at the beach or pool. In the winter months, we can get some cool breezes at night so you may want to bring a long sleeve shirt, a light sweater or windbreaker. For today’s weather, click here.

Coming and Going

Check-in time at the resort is 3:00 p.m., Check-out time is 12:00 noon. If you have a late departing flight, we will be happy to provide you with a late-checkout at an additional fee payable locally at the resort, subject to availability. Hospitality rooms are available for a minimal charge if late check out rooms are not available.

Passports Please

Passports are required. We strongly recommend that all guests travel with a passport validity date of at least six months past the date of departure from the island and check specific country of origin requirements. For information on obtaining or renewing a US passport please visit the US Department of State. For information on UK passports, visit the HM Passport Office.

Speak My Language?

English is the official language of St. Lucia. Many St. Lucians also speak the local French Creole (“Kweyol”) dialect.

Money Matters

The official currency in St. Lucia is the Eastern Caribbean Dollar (EC$), which is tied to the US Dollar (US$) at the rate of EC$2.7 to US$1. However your change will always be in local currency per the banking laws of St Lucia. Visa, MasterCard, and Discover are accepted at the resort, along with cash. AmEx is not accepted for local payments at the resort.

Health Matters

Traveling overseas should be hassle free, and we want to make sure your health is a priority on your holiday. Always remember to bring any medications you are on, as obtaining the same brands on small islands can be difficult. If for any reason you need to see a doctor while you are with us in St. Lucia, we have a very good local doctor that you can visit, and also a great doctor on call. Pharmacies are available for most off-the-shelf items, but some medications will require a doctor’s prescription. We have one private hospital on the island if unfortunately you require anything other than a doctor’s visit. *Please note that ALL medical care in St. Lucia is private and comes at a cost. We HIGHLY recommend carrying travel insurance for this, as normal medical insurance from your own country may not cover you in all cases. Also, note that most medical facilities on the island will not direct bill insurance companies. You will be required to pay your bill upfront and make your claims AFTER any visit or treatment by a medical professional on the island. The hotel carries basic first aid kits, but we have no trained medical personnel on the property. We are happy to call on medical professionals for you, and payments are made directly to them.
